Altona West Community Garage Sale 2001
May 9th, 2001![]() |
On Saturday, May 5th, the Altona West Community Association held our second Community Garage Sale. Despite a few showers during the previous evening, the weather cleared up on Saturday morning, and provided us with a nice sunny day.
About 5 to 10 percent of the community participated by selling their "wares". Although this total was down compared to last year, the results were not a surprise to the AWCA who organized the event. Many of last year's participants hadn't accumulated enough goods to sell for this garage sale. Conversations with residents indicated a general positive response on the success of the day.
Once again, there was an excellent turn-out of buyers looking for deals and bargains. Many of the shoppers were attracted to our community through the advertising provided by the Community Association, including the advertisements in the News Advertiser, and on Rogers Cable 10 community station.
At present, the AWCA will entertain the idea of continuing to run this event on an annual basis. If you have any comments on the day, or suggestions for next year, please send an email and let us know.
We would like to thank Kevin Cahill of Valleyview Drive, the News Advertiser, and Councillor David Pickles for lending us the materials for creating the signs that we placed around the outer edges of the community to promote the garage sale.
