Traffic Calming for Pathway

At the request of Senator Street residents, the AWCA has approached the City regarding their concern over the traffic on the walkway between the street and the Westcreek School property.  Children exit the pathway onto the sidewalk and street at high speeds, creating a safety issue for both themselves, and other children that may be playing nearby.  The opening to the pathway is enclosed on both sides by mature cedar hedges, which obscures the visibility for these cyclists.

Before speaking to the City, the AWCA consulted with several residents on Mossbrook Square to ensure that the same problem does not exist on the pathway that enters their street.  Based on the opinions provided, the problem seems to be isolated to the Senator Street walkway.

On June 3rd, we had asked the City if there was any cyclist calming measures that could be implemented at this location.  City staff have visited the site and made on assessment of the situation.  They have recommended the installation of bollards in an offset pattern that should force the cyclists to slow down at the exit of the walkway.

The bollards are scheduled to be installed sometime during the week of June 18th.
