Meeting Report - Thursday, December 6/02

Officials invited, in attendance:
- Constable Phil Reed (Traffic Enforcement - Durham Regional Police, Pickering/Ajax)
- Constable Gord Fleming (Traffic Enforcement - Durham Regional Police, Whitby)
- Susan Shetler (Co-ordinator of Police Volunteers, Durham Region)
- Larry Jackson (Team Captain - Road Watch, Oshawa)
- Renata Rozinger (Traffic Control Technician, Operations & Emergency Services, Town of Pickering)
- Mike Pelowski (Engineering Technician, Town of Ajax)
Officials invited, not in attendance:
- Councilor David Ryan
- Councilor David Pickles
Community members in attendance:
- 25 from all areas of Pickering, Whitby and Ajax.
Meeting began at 7:20 p.m.
Meeting Details:
- General questions from the floor were received by all officials. The subjects were as follows:
- Methods of offence reporting.
- Range of offences to be reported.
- Report box configurations and potential suppliers.
- Report box locations.
- Report confidentiality.
- Radar board usage.
- Program funding (local corporate, provincial and municipal).
- Support levels of the police and local municipal and provincial governments.
- Road Watch executive board configuration.
- Event schedules (program kick-off, co-ordination with other police and civic events).
- Experiences of other communities with the program.
- It was agreed that Road Watch board executive board meetings would be held at 7:30 p.m., on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month until the projected program launch date of April 1st, 2003.
- The first meeting of the executive board will occur on January 9th, 2003 at which time formal positions will be assigned.
