The Road Watch program was officially launched, in the communities of Ajax and Pickering, on May 12, 2003.

The event was held at the McLean Community Centre, 95 Magill Drive, in the Town of Ajax.  Ajax Mayor Steve Parish, City of Pickering Mayor Wayne Arthurs, Durham Regional Police Services Chief Kevin McAlpine, Division 19 Inspector Sherry Whiteway, local councillors Dave Ryan and Rick Johnson, Road Watch Executive Committee members and the local media were in attendance.

The event was hosted by Allan Knight and Lesley Buchan, Road Watch Co-Chairs.  Invited speakers all spoke of the program as an important community initiative and adjunct to assist the police in reducing traffic violations which lead to personal injury and property damage.  They congratulated the Executive Committee for being able to put the program in place in only four months.

Official Road Watch equipment and information was presented for viewing.  These included the event banner, a drop box, a road sign, official report forms, a speed board, media kits and an official sponsors list.

Information about the program and official report forms can be obtained at the following sites:

Note: Drop box locations are printed on the official report forms.
