South East Collector Trunk Sewer Individual Environmental Assessment Update
June 30th, 2006![]() |
The Regional Municipality of York (York Region) and the Regional Municipality of Durham (Durham Region) are jointly conducting an assessment to identify the solution to address incremental sanitary sewer flow projected from future growth as allowed for in York Regions' Official Plan. Durham Region is a co-proponent with York Region since a portion of the study area is within Durham Region and the two Regions are co-owners of the existing Southeast Collector Trunk Sewer, located in Durham Region. The approximate boundaries of the study region are 9th Line (west), 16th Ave (north), Sideline 16 (east) and Finch Avenue (south).
A third round of Public Information Forums for this initiative was held Tuesday June 27th/Wednesday June 28th in Pickering and Markham respectively.
The environmental assessment initially identified 7 options to address the issue, which have now been screened down to one recommendation - 'Construct a new southeast collect trunk sewer, in combination with implementing other water conservation and inflow/infiltration reduction measures'.
The current focus is to conduct the screening process to select a new sewer route from a list of 12 possible options within the South East region (including the existing route).
A Round #4 Public Forum will occur in the Fall of 2006, to present the recommended route and supporting rational for the choice.
The project team welcomes all input and questions. The Durham region contact is: Rich Tindall (1-800-372-1103 or rich.tindall@region.durham.on.ca).
