Streetproofing 2002
Grades 7 & 8
Let your parents know where you are at all times. Prepare a list of friends for them in case you are overtime coming home. Parents do worry about you
Drugs may become a part of your friend's lifestyle. Choose your firends wisely. If you think drugs are where you are, get out FAST. If you happen to find something that looks like a drug, leave it alone, call someone for assistance, let them know where the item is and they will contact the appropriate people
Never show or flash your money around, someone is always watching you, and never give your P.I.N. to anyone, or use your P.I.N. card in front of anyone
Always be aware of your surroundings if alone. Be aware of an escape route if confronted by someone
Call your parents when you are leaving someone's house. No matter what time it is. If you are scared to walk a long distance home, call your parents for a ride, they won't mind
If you are attacked, don't be a hero. Give up whatever your attacker wants. He or she may be armed. Anything can be used as a weapon
We all have Gut Instinct, if it feels bad or looks bad, it probably is. Get out of the situation FAST
BABYSITTING MAY BE YOUR FIRST MONEY MAKING JOB
Do not take children to lonely parks, woods, parking lots or even schoolyards particularly late afternoon or evening
If someone invites you over, make sure you know who he or she is and you have your employer's permission
Make sure you get clear directions from your employer about answering the door and phone
If you have to ride an elevator to get to and from you sitting job, stay close to the control panel in case of an emergency
If you are in trouble, YOU choose the person that you want to help you. Police, other parents with kids, teachers, bus drivers. KEEP THE CHILDREN WITH YOU
If you and the children find yourselves in a situation that feels uncomfortable, get out of it ... FAST
