Some Thoughts for a Better Community
Show your pride in our community.
Help keep it clean.
-
If you are out and about and see some litter
lying around, please pick it up & dispose of it in the proper manner.
If everyone picked up one piece of litter each time they went out for a
walk, our community would soon be much cleaner.
-
Ensure that the garbage and recycling material
that you are placing on the curb for pickup is properly secured.
Poorly packed materials can easily blow away, or can drop out when the
sanitation crew does their pickup.
-
If you have food stuffs in your weekly
garbage, please put it on the curb the morning of pickup, instead of the
night before. This will help keep the animals from tearing apart
your garbage.
Keep our community safe for our
children. Drive safely through the community.
-
Watch your speed. Speed limits vary
between 40 km/h & 50km/h on our streets. Driving faster than
this may save you a few seconds, but increases the risk that a child may
be seriously injured if he or she should step out in front of your car.
-
Come to a complete stop at all posted STOP
signs. Oncoming traffic & pedestrians expect that you are going
to stop, and may proceed with this assumption in hand.
-
Watch as you pass parked cars. Children
can easily come out from behind a parked car & not see you coming.
An alert driver has a better chance to stop quickly in an emergency.
Keep our community safe from crime.
-
Due to limited resources on the police
force, we cannot expect frequent patrols to ensure our protection from
crime. We must remain alert and observant at all times.
-
When you are out at night, or away for
a holiday, have inside lights on a timer. It makes your home look
occupied & may deter a would-be thief.
-
Make your home difficult to break into.
Use proper locks to secure your doors & windows. Strips of wood
in the track of a window or sliding door do not adequately secure it.
Nothing is a substitute for a good quality lock.
-
If you are planning to be away for more
that a few days, have a neighbour keep watch over your home. They
can help ensure that your timers, alarms, etc are operating correctly.
-
Don't leave valuables in your car.
It can become a calling card for a thief. If he sees an expensive
item laying on your seat, he may choose to break into your car to get it.
-
If you see anyone acting suspicious, call
the police. DO NOT confront them yourself. Leave the job for
someone who is properly trained to deal with it --- the police.
